usmcsis's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- still no change so mama and i went to the hospital and stayed for a few hours. we both went back a couple of times and stayed with grandma for a while. seperately though. she is sedated of course, because she tries to pull her breathing tube out if she isn't, but she should still be responding to some stimulus. the doctor was in her room when my mom first went in and he was trying to get some response from her but didn't get any at all. as a matter of fact, she hasn't responded to anything in three or four days now. the doctor suggested that we try when we go in to talk to her to see if she will respond to our voices and to try physical stimuli, like tickling her hand or foot. i tried several times to get her to respond during the few times i went back but i got nothing. at one time while i was in there her sedative ran out and while they were getting more to replace it, they restrained one wrist to the bed so that she would not try to pull out her tubes if she started to wake up. i was holding her other hand so they didn't strap that one down. her rep. therapist told me that she was coming out of her sedation because she started breathing very fast and shallow, hyperventillating almost, so i tried at that time to get some response from her and still got nothing. i wasn't really surprised. like i said the other day, i'm not sure she's still there. i'm still feeling much better. my bp is still high, but it's at the lowest it's been in the past two days. if things stay the same with grandma tomorrow then i will be at work tomorrow afternoon to close tomorrow night. i should go to bed now. thanks again for all the great notes. i appreciate everyone's concern for both my grandma's health and mine in the past week.
