usmcsis's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hot metal & skin do not mix long time no entry. howdy. i've been online almost everyday in the past couple of weeks but it seems that AOL does not like either diaryland or hotmail. *sigh* hey, at least i have internet access right? even if it does suck. so we had our second reptile birthday party this past sunday. it went so great! and it looks like we are going to get at leat 6 or 7 more bookings out of this one party. yay for us! so we're starting all of the paperwork to start a non-profit organization. we're going to run our animal rescue/shelter and our educational programs under the non-profit foundation in addition to our breeding business. it's a ton of paperwork to get through but it will all be worth it eventually. the non-profit will actually come to life before the business does but that won't be far behind. i'm looking into getting all of the info to file for our business permits and lisences and such for that as well. it is looking like 2003 is going to be a big year for us. we hope. lol cross your fingers for us. jeff went ahead and gave me my christmas present last week. this is our third christmas together and this is the first year that he has given me a gift that i hadn't picked out myself and put into the shopping cart. lol he had to give it to me early because of course, it is alive! lol i've been wanting a chameleon for a while now so he got me the most beautiful little baby male veiled chameleon. he is the cutest little thing. i was holding him the other night and he was opening his mouth all wide at me which is like a defense mechanism for them, they do it when they feel threatened because it makes them look bigger. anyway, so i put my face down close to him to look at his back because he was changing colors right in my hand and he jumped, and i do mean jumped, right onto my nose and climbed up my face and sat on the top of my head. it was so funny but then he got tangled up in my hair and it took jeff like five minutes to get him out. lol so now i need to name him but i can't decide. because he is my christmas gift i was thinking i'd name after one of the reindeer but i can't decide which one. i'm thinking either rudolph or maybe prancer because he does this little hoppy thing when he's climbing and it looks like he's dancing. good grief, soap operas really suck. but there isn't much else on other than days of our lifes. oh well, i'm off to work on getting the foyer put together. i got the bedroom all unpacked and got the bed finally put together. but, since there is no heat in the bedroom yet we are still sleeping on the couch. jeff's cousin is supposed to be coming out in the next week or so to work on the electric so that we can run a heater in there. i got the kids room all done last week too so that they will have a place to sleep when they come to stay for christmas break. well, i'm going to give you a bit of reptile trivia that i've been working on for our educational show brochures and then i'm outta here. toodles. _______________________________________ a ball python once went 22 months without eating and is still alive. the anaconda is the longest snake in the world and the reticulated python is the thickest. the smallest reptile in the world is the british virgin islands gecko at only 7/10 of an inch long. the spiny-tailed iguana is believed to be the fastest lizrard in the world, it has been tracked at about 21 mph and the fastest snake in the world is probably the venomous black mamba. the largest lizard in the world is the komodo dragon. snakes don't blink and they sleep with their eyes open. why? because that don't have eyelids. snakes can't hear, they don't have any ears. instead they feel vibrations through the ground. the first soldier killed in the civil war was not killed in battle. he died from a coral snake bite while preparing a field for battle. out of the 30 snake species in virginia, only 3 of those are venomous. 12:45 pm - 17 Dec 2002 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
