usmcsis's Diaryland Diary

no words

the air hung heavy between them, weighted with words unspoken. they sat silently together, touching slightly. shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip. the barest of touches yet her skin felt like fire where it connected with his.

a slight breeze blew and she could smell the flowers blooming at the other end of the field. their blanket was wet with dew as dawn grew closer. the stars, brighter than neon a few hours ago, were dimming. a hazy pinkness starting to spread along the horizon.

he reached out, took her hand in his, lightly skimming across her fingers with his thumb. she closed her eyes and focused on the touch, the sensation.

they stared straight ahead, still not speaking. holding hands, listening. sounds that didnt quite belong to night, yet didnt quite belong to daylight.

his hand was warm in hers. she knew what he was thinking. as clearly as if he had spoken. they were as one; one mind, one heart, one body.

he released her hand and slid his arm around her. she leaned closer to him turning to look at him.

in the same moment he turned. no smiles, no words. just being. together.

with a fingertip he traced her face, her jawline, her lips, her closed eyes. she sighed quietly, her heart hammering in her chest. he cupped her face in his hand, holding her there, inches from his own face. he closed his eyes, leaned his forehead against hers.

she was him and he her. his heart, his life.

the light pink blush spreading in the sky bloomed into a pale rose blossom as they lay back on the blanket.

he leaned over her, eyes still closed, listening the sound of her breathing. he knew this would be the last time. a wrenching pain tore through his chest. as if she had felt it she reached up and laid a hand on his heart ever so lightly.

he kissed her forehead with the lightest of touches. as if she were glass and would shatter against his lips with too much pressure. he felt, rather than heard, her sigh against his neck. the pain in his chest deepened. he opened his eyes. as if she knew she also opened hers.

staring up at him, with the rosey sky blossoming behind him, she smiled. the faintest hint of a smile. the hand she laid on his heart moved slowly as if on its own, slowly, resting on his shoulder. then slowly cupping around his neck. he closed his eyes at the feeling of her touch on his bare skin. her hand rested there lightly. he opened his eyes and a tear fell onto her face.

leaning closer he kissed the tear from her cheek then leaned closer and in a kiss that was more a joint breath she felt him tell her everything. no words were ever needed.
