a trip down the yellow brick road

last night when i was at the library i was disappointed to find that my branch does not have a copy of the wonderful wizard of oz. so i got them to reserve me a copy from another branch and they said they should get it in within a few days, like on thursday or so.

but i was impaitent. lol i wanted to have it in my hands right flippin now! lol so i decided to ride to the bookstore and just skim the first couple of chapters or so. that way i could get my oz fix right then and there and then i could wait for the book to come in on thursday.

well, i sat down in one of the reading area chairs with a copy of the book and opened it up. i really was planning just to skim here and there and go on home.

an hour and half later i stood up and stretched. my neck was sore, my shoulders and back were sore, all from sitting still for so long. i don't think i moved hardly at all.

but i read the entire book, cover to cover, in less than two hours.

i love that book. it's a short book, which is why i was able to get through it so quickly. the copy i read was only 216 pages and several of them were full page illustrations. all in all i'd guess that if it were full type with no illustrations and such then it would probably have been 150 pages or less.

have you read the wonderful wizard of oz?

do you know what color dorothy's shoes really were? (mgm used "ruby slippers" as a way to show off the new technology of technicolor.)

do you know how the tin man became made of tin?

do you know how the winged monkeys came to be slaves of the wicked witch of the west?

anyway, so i called the library this morning and had them cancel my request for the wwooz. but i got them to get me a copy of the marvelous land of oz. this is the only other book about oz that i ever read. it's the continuing adventures of the scarecrow and the tin man after dorothy returns to kansas.

i want to read all the baum oz books. did you know that baum wrote 13 books about oz? did you know that there are 40 books in the oz series? most people aren't even aware that oz is a series. the librarian last night didn't beleive me when i told her that. lol she had to look it up online to try to prove me wrong. lol

anyway, so last night i checked out bridge to terebitha and the magician's nephew, which is the first book in the chronicles of narnia series by c.s. lewis. i was so wrapped up in the childish excitement that i never even got near the adult section of the library last night. lol

well, i have to close tonight and i have to be at work in an hour so i need to go get ready. everyone have a wonderful tuesday and i'll talk to you later.

toodles.
