can't win for losing

so jeff and i are having a bit of a quandry here. we told our friend bryan, who also happens to be second-in-command in our company that we were interviewing with another storage company that paid more money. bryan of course promised not to tell the prez about and wished us luck. his direct quote was: "you guys deserve more than u-haul is going to pay you."

jeff just happened to mention it around the office to two people in particular that he knew would run straight to amy (the prez) and tell her. basically, he wanted to see what she would say or do when she heard that we might leave. supposedly she loves us, we are so great, we make the numbers look great and so on and so forth. you'd think we were the best thing to come along since sliced bread to hear her talk but anyway.

so today bryan calls with a "proposal."

apparently, as soon as amy heard this so-called "rumor" that jeff and i might be leaving she called bryan to see if he knew anything about it. he told her that whether or not he knew anything depended on what she planned to do about it if it were true. (confusing isn't it?)

so they got together and decided to offer jeff a center to manage. it's in midlothian, it's storage and trucks but they also do hitches and stuff there. the major upside is that at storage usa, we'd be making round about $33,000 a year combined. if he took this position they're offering he'd be making $30,000 by himself. then they'd move me up to a relief manager or put me full time in a center making $8 an hour.

the downside is this...

1) we'd still be working for u-haul

2) we'd still be dealing with trucks

3) jeff would be back to all the management stress that he has enjoyed not having since he left rent-a-center

4) we'd have to find a place to live

5) we'd have to pay rent and utilities

6) we'd have transportation issues being that we know only have one car

7) jeff's child support would go up by like over $700 per month

basically, we wouldn't be bringing home that much money after it was all said and done. to put it as jeff did earlier, "it sucks when you can't afford a raise."
